The Commission for Academic
Accreditation (CAA) has participated in the 13th edition of the International
Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (InQAAHE), hosted by
Mexico from 6 to 9 June, entitled “Sustainable Quality Assurance”. The Emirati
delegation was presided by Dr. Mr. Mohamed Yousef Baniyas, Director of CAA.
The conference’s agenda
included various workshops, seminars focusing on data management and using them
in higher education, .and the experience of some academic accreditation commissions
in utilizing quality assurance mechanisms to encourage obtaining international
recognition. Most of the conference’s activities have focused on artificial intelligence, its
role in higher education, its modern trends, challenges, and solutions.
There was also a focus on
the values, transparency standards, and objectivity in the assessment process
of higher education institutions. The recommendations of the conference
included the need for
branches of universities outside the country of incorporation to obtain
accreditation from two bodies; the accreditation body in which the headquarters
is located and the accreditation body of the country in which the branch is
On the sidelines of the
conference, the CAA has been honored for obtaining international recognition
and the certificate of
international best practices to ensure the quality of higher education from the
INQAAHE for five years. The
file submitted by the CAA has been highly praised and appreciated, for its role
in managing academic accreditation and its commitment to apply the best
practices. His Excellency Ahmed Almenhali, UAE’s ambassador to Mexico, has
attended the honoring and handing out the international recognition certificate
to Dr. Mohamed Baniyas.
Dr. Mohamed Baniyas said
that the efforts of the MoE were focused on continuing the qualitative
development of education and cooperating with friendly countries to develop
sustainable plans and program to achieve national objectives. He added that
such objectives included advancing the country’s ranking, to be among the most
advanced countries in education globally.
He stressed that the CAA
applied the best international standards and ensured quality in the academic
accreditation process of higher education institutions and their academic
programs. He added that the honoring received from the INQAAHE recognized its
role in managing the academic accreditation and commitment to applying the best
practices. He explained that the honoring also gave the CAA the global
recognition status, granting the CAA international credibility and making it
one out 11 commissions only having that global recognition.
On the other hand, the
CAA’s delegation, presided by Dr. Mohamed Baniyas and Dr Sameera Al Mulla,
Director of Certificate Equivalency Department, have also visited the UNAM
University, the biggest university in Latin America. The university also has a
long history in Mexica, as three of its students has won the Nobel prizes in
peace, literature, and chemistry.
